Sunrise at the Lincoln Memorial | Bridal Portraits

Let’s talk about bridal portraits. So you’re getting married, and you’ve invested so much time, effort, and money in finding the perfect dress to marry the love of your life in. Who says you just have to wear your wedding dress once? This bride had her bridal portraits taken at sunrise at the Lincoln Memorial.

There are a few things to consider when planning your bridal portraits. First, what is the aesthetic of your dress? If you have a super chic or classic wedding dress, I recommend a more timeless, and classic location. In DC, that includes the Library of Congress, the Lincoln Memorial, the National Arboretum, etc. The list could go on. If you have a more modern wedding dress, you may want to consider a location like the Kennedy Center with its modern lines. Although, the pillars at Lincoln and the Library of Congress also do well complimenting modern dresses. If you have a very classic gown, you may want to consider the mansions DC has to offer to include Anderson House, Meridian House, and Perry Belmont House. The big takeaway here is that when planning your bridal portraits, the location should fit your wedding look.

Now let’s talk about timing. Timing is everything when it comes to portraits. I help my wedding clients curate their day of timeline so that their wedding images center around the best light throughout the day. Your bridal portraits should be no different. I recommend beginning your bridal portraits either at sunrise, like these bridal portraits at the Lincoln Memorial, or about an hour and a half prior to sunset.

Once you’ve found your dress and decided on the location, you should consider your hair, makeup, and accessories. It would be great if this was with your wedding day team. But, depending on their availability, you may have to go with other vendors. I recommend ensuring your look is very similar to that of your wedding day so that your bridal portraits reflect the same style as your wedding portraits.
