Yesterday I photographed something very special. A week and a half ago, Adam contacted me to photograph his surprise proposal in Virginia. He told me how in Newport News, there is a special spot. It’s the spot where he and Michelle would go before he had to leave. This couple did long distance for a WHILE, and this was their spot. What better place for a surprise proposal?
The Surprise Proposal Story | Newport News, Virginia
Adam knew he wanted to propose on the bridge. The bridge, as he said, was where they would have their walks. If you’ve ever been in a long distance relationship, you know how tough those goodbyes are. Whether they are for five days or five months, those goodbyes are tough. This was the place that would make them feel just a little bit better before they both left for home. In August, they moved to enjoy the same city and finally be closer together.
I hid in the trees. I wanted to make sure I could see them clearly. But, I also wanted to make sure that Michelle wouldn’t see me. I never want to be the one to throw off a surprise. My goal was to capture from afar and move closer to photograph her genuine reaction.
I could hear her happy scream travel across the water. Her hands covered her face. My lips turned to a smile behind my camera. Adam and Michelle were engaged!! You could say the surprise proposal was a success!
Once I popped out of the trees and walked toward them, we enjoyed a few introductions. I learned more about Adam and Michelle, and quickly saw how kind hearted and in love these two are. I absolutely love her surprised reactions and seeing the love between them after Adam proposed. They are so cute! For the rest of our time, we roamed the park and captured some beautiful portraits. Adam emailed me after I sent them their sneak peek, and promptly referred to Michelle as his fiance! Ahhh! I love it. Once again, congratulations to you both! YOU’RE ENGAGED!
